Prospective Students

Becoming a LAMP scholar is one of the best ways to connect with professionals in the field of library and information science and learn about this exciting career path. LAMP encourages the participation of students from statistically and historically underrepresented populations. Students in their junior/senior year of college who are interested in participating in the LAMP scholars program can complete the online application (including an essay and one letter of reference). Successful candidates will then participate in Summer Institutes and internships at a member institution. Additionally, once accepted for participation in the program, scholars will be matched with a mentor, who will guide them through the program and beyond.

Applications for 2011 LAMP Scholarships will be available in the fall of 2010.

Application Guidelines

Applicants should:

  • Receive their undergraduate degree no later than Spring of the year following their application
  • Have an interest in library and information science graduate study as well as careers related to library and information science
  • Maintain good academic standing
  • Be a US Citizen or Legal Resident
  • Experience working in an academic library is preferred but not a requirement

The essay should reflect the following:

  • Your interest in joining LIS Access Midwest Program
  • Your areas of interest in graduate studies and careers
  • Why you should be selected
  • What you expect to accomplish after completing the program
  • Please limit your essay to 500 words. The selection committee will use your statement as part of the review process.

Selection process

The LAMP Advisory Group will review applications and base their selection on the following:

  • Essay
  • Areas of Interest
  • Letter of Reference
  • Telephone interview
  • Ability to participate in all aspects of the program

Priority will be given to regional applicants. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all application requirements are complete, including the reference letter.
Final selection or rejection of applicants lies with the LAMP Advisory Group.
